If you happened to visit the City Center's website yesterday... or today you may have noticed some changes. The good folks at ICOM Tech Services spent some time crafting a lovely new website for us. So with that in mind our blog is moving to the new site. Everything is built right into our new webpage... so check it out!

If you've driven down Broadway in the last week or so, you may have noticed that the construction fencing has taken over a lane of traffic. This is so that some new drains and sidewalk curbs can be put in.

Also in the works this week... expect to see some bricks! The north wall, facing the hotel, is being prepped for bricks which should arrive by the end of the week.

It actually looks like a building!

Steel deliveries have been happening every day! More and more the building is taking shape... soon bricks will start to go up on the north wall next to the Saratoga Hilton.

Last week before one of the big support beams for the second floor went up, the staff took the opportunity to put our marks on the building.

Also, in the next couple of weeks, be on the look out for updated entrance information. As demolition of the Ellsworth Jones Place wall starts, our entrance will be moved to a temporary location.

We are still sorting through pictures, but promise to have a bunch up by the end of the week. From this point on the building will be ever changing so there will be a lot more updates!

But while you wait for the pictures... stop by our new neighbors the Cup Cake Lab! The are across the hall from our temporary offices above Roohan Realty. Delicious coffee, cupcakes and comfort food!!

A truck delivered some of the smaller pieces of steel for the meeting room addition this morning. The huge beams are expected bright and early tomorrow morning! If your on the North end of Broadway tomorrow, stop to check out the progress... should be a great sight to watch!

The foundation is all prepped and ready for the steel delivery that is expected by the end of the week.

The sun is shinning as construction continues. The foundation and footings for the new meeting rooms are complete! We are just waiting for the steel delivery, which is now expected next week. Along with the foundation work... the new fire exit ramp that will be between the City Center and the Hotel has seen some major progress as well as some of the electrical systems inside the building.

While the snow that we finally got last week was good for winter sports tourism... it was not so good for City Center Construction. Construction took a small break while it snowed over a foot, and then rained even more, but we are back in full construction mode this week!

But despite the bad weather and the construction the annual Home Show was well attended!

Steel??

Not much updating has happened in the last month, but rest assured work has been moving forward. The footings and foundations are just about finished! So expect to see some steel being delivered soon! Inside the building work has been going on as well. Some of the electrical systems are being put into place, including a new fire alarm system.

Construction is not the only thing happening at the City Center though. In the past few weeks we've hosted the annual Bartenders Ball, Dance Flurry and a Bridal Show. Coming up next- The Rotary Home Show! Stop by this weekend, check out the Home show and the construction progress .

Foundations

Demolition is finally complete! Well, at least is is on the front of the building. The footings are in place and the foundation is ready to be poured.

Happy Holidays from the City Center Staff! We have defiantly had an exciting 2009 and are really looking forward to 2010 and the completion of our expansion.

Work behind the construction fencing continues. Digging for the new foundation has begun and some concrete has been poured.

Behind the big fence

Now that the excitement of the columns coming down is complete, it looks like there is nothing going on behind our big green construction fence, but we assure you that there is!

Currently our construction crew is digging and placing new drains in the corner where the City Center meets the Hotel. Not very exciting to watch, since you can't see it from the street, but very exciting when it rains!

Post Thanksgiving update

Digging started this week for some of the new drainage that is being put in. Flooding has been an issue for the City Center and Hotel in the past, so we are all very excited for the new drains!

Sidewalks and Bricks! Oh My!

Now that the Loggia columns are gone, the fencing has been move back on Broadway to allow for some sidewalk space. Up next.... cleaning up the giant pile of bricks that are the remains of the columns.

Stay tuned for photos of the final columns coming down... first though we have to remember to move the pictures from the camera to the computer.

Demolition Update

The debris pile keeps growing as work continues on the removal of the Loggia Columns. Brick on the Ellsworth Jones Place side of the building have also started to be removed.

Also... check the side column of the blog for updates on the entrance to the building and parking.

Demolition Continues

Brick by brick the loggia columns are coming down. Our demolition/construction crew has been hard at work since the pyramids came down strategically removing the columns that held them up and cleaning up the debris. Check back next week for more demolition pictures and excitement as the last column comes down.

If you've driven past the City Center lately you might have noticed that bricks have been coming down... slowly but surely. Yesterday the real work began when each of the 9 copper pyramids on the roof of the loggia were removed. The pictures to the right were taken by City Center Staff Members. The Saratogian also caught the action.

Quick update... the Pyramids on top of the loggia are expected to start coming down on Monday. While we wait for that to happen the crew is building a new/temporary handicap accessible ramp.

Demolition is actually happening!

Fencing was put in place at the end of last week and the digging up of the sidewalk started this morning!

Large green and white signs are in place on the fence and the building pointing to the entry. It might be a little confusing for a while, but staff will be around to direct you to the right place.

Ground Breaking

The ground breaking ceremony took place this morning. Mike Toohey, Chairman of the City Center Authority, Mayor Johnson, Former Senator Bruno and Mark Baker, President of the City Center all gave speeches to commemorate the event. The highlight of the morning's festivities however was the actual ground breaking done by children from the community. Pictures of the event will come soon!

The next step is the demolition, scheduled to start bright and early tomorrow morning, the 15th.

Communications and A/V Bids

Just a quick reminder... Communications and A/V bids are due at the City Center, in the lobby, at 11am on Thursday the 10th. Public Opening will happen right at 11.

Offices have Moved!

The Administrative Offices (Judy, Andi, Donna, Rebecca and Sarah) have officially moved across the street. No phones yet, but hopefully they will work tomorrow.

The police officer and cars stopped at the light had a good laugh as we tried to get our picture taken in the cross walk. A big Thanks to Angela at the Convention Bureau for being our photographer!

Groundbreaking and Moving

The Groundbreaking Ceremony has been scheduled for September 14th at 11am. More information to come.

As mentioned in a previous post... the City Center offices are moving across the street to 517 Broadway, suite 206 starting September 8th till the completion of construction. While movers are handling the heavy stuff, City Center Staff will also be moving some of the equipment... so if you happen to see us posing for some fun pictures while crossing the street, please don't run us over :-)

Communication and A/V Bids

The pre-bid meeting for Contracts 6 (Communication) and 7 (Audio/Video) will be tomorrow, August 25th at 1pm at the City Center.

Anyone interested in submitting a bid is strongly encouraged to attend.

Now that the bids are in and have been officially calculated...

MLB Construction, of Malta, NY, has been selected as General Contractor; Collett Mechanical, of Latham, NY, for HVAC work; Alltek Energy Systems, of of Waterford, NY for Plumbing work; Gross Electric, of Queensbury, for Electrical work; and Davis-Ulmer Sprinkler Company, of Latham, NY for Fire Protection Work.

There has also been another advertisement for bids for Communications and Audio/Video. It will be in the Saratogian on the 20th and 21st, the Gazette on the 21st and 22nd and the Times Union on the 22nd and 23rd.

On another note... during construction the City Center Offices will be moving across the street to 517 Broadway, suite 206.

Welcome to your source for updates on the City Center Expansion Project!

Today is day one! Bids for construction were accepted and opened today. A big thanks goes out to everyone who submitted their bids before the deadline this morning, and who stayed around to hear them read.

The Authority will review the bids on the 12th and make recommendations to the City Council for the Council Meeting on the 18th. Check back on the 19th for who gets the notice to proceed.
